Calcined Clay

Calcined clay is an anhydrous aluminium silicate produced by heating fine natural clay to around 1000-1500 degrees centigrade (dependent upon grade).  These clays give a high opacity and have an increased Mohs harness value of around 4-5, compared to hydrous clay which has a Mohs value of about 2.5.

It is an excellent material for many refractory purposes including shell moulds in casting, kiln furniture and cements.  These are available un-coated or coated and a wide range of sizes are available.

Flash Calcined Kaolin

This is a high performance calcined kaolin produced by Imerys® using a patented flash calcination technique.  This process creates intrinsically sealed voids within the particle resulting in a low specific gravity and displaying outstanding opacifying properties.
