Applications of Cellulose Fibre

Richard Baker Harrison Ltd are the UK and Irish agent and distributor for a range of cellulose fibres produced by the Cellulose Fibre Fabrik (CFF). CFF GmbH and Co Kg are based in Gehren Germany and  have been producing  functional cellulose fibres and cellulose powders for more than 30 years. The cellulose fibres are produced from naturally occurring renewable resources including Hard wood, Soft wood Wheat and Bamboo. The Cellulose Fibre Products are marketed under the trade names Technocel® ,  Technocel 1004G®, Topcel® and  Genicel® The products which are produced in Gehren Germany  are certified under the DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management system. This also incorporates the DIN EN ISO 14001;2000 Quality Management system.

Richard Baker Harrison Ltd market these products to three very important application areas. These are the Road Construction Industries, the Building Chemical Industries and the Chemical Industries . Richard Baker Harrison Ltd is able to deliver material direct to the customer from CFF’s factory in Germany or from our strategically located warehouses in the UK.

Road Construction Industries

Road construction is a considerable factor in the infrastructure of any country. Consequently requirements on the asphalts durability , safety and economy are under continual discussion. Various Asphalt modifiers  can be added to the Bitumen  to improve its performance in different road systems but Cellulose fibre has proven to be the most cost effective., The application areas include  Airport Infrastructures Water/Dumping ground engineering, Motorways, Intersections , Bus stops and Racing Circuits.  The  main area of application for the Technocel ® Techocel1004g Topcel ® ® and Genicel® is in the modification of  Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) Asphalt Concrete,  Porous Asphalt  and High Deformation Binders.
In  SMA  the Cellulose Fibre is used to stabilise the high Bitumen content that is used.  In Asphalt Concrete  it improves the deformation resistance and extends the service life of the pavements considerably whilst in Porous Asphalt the Topcel® and Technocel®   fix the binder to the aggregates  surface and therefore prevent de-mixing during transport and laying. Finally it increases the  deformation resistance and acts as a stabiliser in highly deformation resistant binder systems. Technocel®  Technocel 1004G®  Topcel® and Genicel can be used in all these application areas.

Technocel ®

Techocel is the loose form of the cellulose fibre and can be supplied in low melt bags. The bags are available in  a number of bags sizes. The most popular being the 3 kg and 12 kg .

This is a further development of the Technocel loose fibre which is extensively used in Asphalt applications. To reduce the costs of transportation this product has been compacted before packing and can be supplied in a number of  bag sizes which are  smaller than the loose fibre equivalent

Topcel is the granular form of Technocel. It has been specially developed for the road construction industry. The pellets are approximately 6 mm in Diameter and and 10 mm long. The form of the pellet improves the flow characteristics of Technocel and provides exact dosage from the Silo during storage, Topcel contains no bitumen binder . The Topcel can be supplied in low melt bags, in 500 kg or 1000 kg big bags It can  also be loaded into a  bulk tanker for direct discharge into the customers storage silo on site.

Genicel

A further modification of the Topcel is by the inclusion of a wax into the pellet. This two component system consisting of a synthetic bitumen additive and the  Technocel fibre  gives improved stability to the bitumen and reduces the mixing temperature of the batch.. The Genicel can be supplied in low melt bags and big bags as required by the customer

Building Chemistry

A range of  grey and white fibres are offered to these application areas. The areas include  Bitumen Applications, Paints, Adhesives and Filling Compounds, Plasters and Renders, Antinoise Films and Friction linings. The fibres are offered in lengths of  a diameter of 25 to 45 micron and a length of 40 to 2500 micron. They offer a range of benefits to the product including  improving the antisagging  properties of  the product and the thixotropic characteristics, The range of products are indicated below

Grey Fibres

White Fibres

Chemicals

This includes the use of Cellulose Fibre in specialist applications. This included Welding Electrodes. Carbonless Copy Paper Artificial Leather Carriers  eg for Dry Carpet Cleaners and Artificial Snow. Further information can be supplied on request  as  special grades  are required for these applications.
