Richard Baker Harrison distribute a range of China Clays( Kaolins) produced by Imerys ® in the United Kingdom and also act as an export agent for small lots throughout the world. China Clay or Kaolin is a naturally occurring hydrated aluminium silicate mineral formed by the hydrothermal degradation of granite. Imerys® is the worlds largest producer of high quality clays and has plants through out the world. Richard Baker Harrison Ltd has a number of strategically located warehouse within the United Kingdom from which to distribute these products. As well as Clays from Imerys® Richard Baker Harrison Ltd are able to offer a number of speciality clays for the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries which conform to the necessary British Pharmocopoeia (BP) requirements.
The Product range offered by Imerys® and distributed by Richard Baker Harrison Ltd is used extensively in the Paint , Plastics, Rubber and Printing Ink Industries. Special Grades of Kaolin are also available for the Cosmetics and Pharmacetical Industry. Richard Baker Harrison Ltd is also able to offer specialist repacking facilities and can tailor delivery specifications to meet the customers requirements.

Calcined Clays
Calcined Clay is an anhydrous aluminium silicate produced by heating a fine natural clay to around 1000 degrees C. These clays give a high opacity and have an increased Mohs harness value of around 4-5 compared to an hydrous clay with a mohs value of about 2.5. The clays are available uncoated or coated with a range of coatings available.

These are mined in North Devon and are used extensively in the Ceramics Industry. They are also used in the Rubber Industry as a general filler.

Flash Calcined Kaolin
This is a high performance calcined kaolin produced by Imerys ® by a patented flash calcinations technique that creates intrinsically sealed voids within the particles resulting in a low specific gravity within the particles resulting in a low specific gravity and outstanding opacifying properties.

Special Clays
Richard Baker Harrison is able to offer a range of Kaolins which are marketed to the Cosmetics and Pharmaceutical Industries. These clays are supplied by both Imerys ® and Goonvean Ltd ®. The kaolins dependant upon the supplier meet the relevant British Pharmacopoeia standards. The kaolins may also be irradiated and the facilities of Isotron Ltd are used for this purpose. In both instances Certificates of Analysis can be supplied together with the relevant certificate of irradiation. A microbiological certificate can also be supplied if required by the customer.
