EPOXY RESINS AND CURING AGENTS

Richard Baker Harrison Ltd. is the European distributor for Lindau Chemicals Inc., a speciality chemicals manufacturer with state of the art manufacturing facilities in Columbia, South Carolina, USA.

Lindau has particular expertise in the manufacture and applications technology of liquid anhydrides which find use as curing agents for epoxy resins, and are marketed under the name Lindride™. Lindau's anhydrides are formulated for ease of use in filament winding, potting compounds, pultrusion, laminates and other applications.

The Lindride™ Product Range.

The Lindride™ range of anhydrides for use as epoxy curing agents consists of several series of products as below.

  • Lindride™ 22 Series – Methyl Nadic Anhydride
  • Lindride™ 32 Series – Methyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride (MTHPA) specially formulated to remain liquid at temperatures well below ambient
  • Lindride™ 52 Series – Methylhexahydrophthalic Anhydride.
  • Lindride™ 62 Series – a group of anhydride blends based on 4-methylhexahydrophthalic anhydride. Recommeded for applications requiring good chemical resistance.

All Lindride™ hardeners can be supplied either unpromoted or prepromoted.

Advantages of Lindride™ Liquid Anhydrides

In comparison with amine hardeners, the Lindride™ liquid anhydrides are low viscosity liquids of light colour and relatively low cost.

Pot life is considerably longer than with amines, which can reduce wasteful loss of materials in many applications.

Handling and mixing are convenient and easy, toxicity is lower.

Electrical, mechanical and thermal properties compare favourably.

Exotherm during cure is lower, permitting the fabrication of larger castings.
