The calcination process removes chemically bound water and modifies the crystal lattice, resulting in a harder, more opaque and more chemically stable functional mineral compared to hydrated kaolin. The Calcined Kaolin range is designed to support applications where high brightness, improved opacity, reinforcement and dielectric properties are required. Compared with standard China Clay grades, calcined kaolin offers significantly improved light scattering, enhanced abrasion resistance and lower oil absorption, making it particularly effective in high performance coatings, polymer compounds and rubber systems. In coatings, Calcined Kaolin is widely used as a partial replacement for titanium dioxide, contributing to improved hiding power, film durability and colour stability while supporting cost effective formulation. In plastics and thermoplastics, calcined grades enhance stiffness, dimensional stability and surface finish, while maintaining good processing behaviour.
