Product Overview

EMADOX® Flash Rust Inhibitors are specialised additives designed to prevent the rapid formation of iron oxide on ferrous metal surfaces exposed to moisture during coating application or surface treatment. Flash rust commonly occurs in water-based systems where metal substrates are exposed before film formation is complete, leading to surface discolouration, reduced adhesion and compromised coating performance.

RBH supplies the EMADOX® Flash Rust Inhibitors range for use in water-based paints, primers and varnishes, helping to maintain clean, corrosion-free metal surfaces during application and drying. These additives function by forming a temporary protective barrier and or passivating the metal surface, delaying oxidation until the coating film has fully formed.

The range includes both nitrite-free and nitrite-containing technologies, allowing formulators to select solutions aligned with performance requirements, regulatory considerations and formulation constraints.

EMADOX® is a ready-to-use, VOC-free and nitrite-free flash rust inhibitor developed for modern water-based coating formulations. It protects ferrous and non-ferrous substrates from rapid oxidation during the application and drying stages of water-based paints, varnishes, primers and protective coatings. Its aqueous formulation combines multiple corrosion inhibition mechanisms to delay oxidation, supporting film integrity, adhesion and surface appearance. EMADOX® is compatible with acrylic, alkyd, epoxy and polyurethane dispersions and is also suitable for in-can corrosion protection of metal packaging containing water-based formulations. Typical use levels are around 0.4–1.0 % by weight, with higher dosages used in more sensitive conditions.

AB RUST® is a flash rust inhibitor formulated with sodium nitrite combined with organic corrosion inhibitors, supplied as an aqueous solution for water-based coatings. It is used to prevent rapid surface oxidation on steel and iron substrates during the application and drying of water-borne paints, primers, varnishes and anticorrosive formulations. AB RUST is compatible with a wide range of traditional water-based binders, including acrylics, alkyds, epoxies and polyurethanes. Typical use levels are 0.3–1.0 % by weight, providing effective corrosion protection without adversely affecting formulation rheology or film properties. AB RUST® is also suitable for in-can protection of metal packaging containing water-based coating products.
