It is produced by rapid cooling and expansion of volcanic lava which traps gas bubbles, creating a lightweight material with controlled abrasivity and high internal surface area. In coatings and polish systems, pumice provides controlled abrasivity and surface texture for scratch resistance, enhanced matting and visual appeal.
