Zircon

Zircon is a naturally occurring zirconium silicate mineral valued for its high melting point, chemical inertness and excellent refractive properties. It is supplied primarily in two forms, zircon sand and zircon flour, each suited to different processing and performance requirements across ceramic, refractory and industrial applications.

Zircon sand is typically used in foundry, refractory and construction applications where particle integrity, thermal stability and resistance to chemical attack are critical. Its high melting point and low thermal expansion make it well suited for moulds, cores and refractory linings, providing excellent resistance to metal penetration, thermal shock and erosion under extreme service conditions.

Zircon flour is a finely milled grade used extensively in ceramic bodies, glazes and coatings as an opacifier and functional raw material. In ceramics and glass applications, zircon flour improves whiteness and opacity, enhances surface quality and helps control thermal expansion mismatch, contributing to improved durability and finished product consistency. It is also used as a functional filler in coatings and speciality industrial formulations where heat resistance and inert behaviour are required.
