Glass Beads

Micropeal, Omicron

Product Type:

Speciality Modifiers

Applications:

Coatings, Composites, Plastics & Thermoplastics

Microperl glass microspheres are translucent solid glass beads with a smooth surface and display the appearance of a fine white powder. They are usually coated with a coupling agent which optimises bonding between the microperl and resin/polymer. The average particle size can be as low as 20 microns.

Key Properties:
  • Thermoplastics – Very Low Oil Absorption. Ball Bearing Effect in mixing leads to reduced viscosity & improved production speed. Isotropic and Controlled Shrinkage Giving Improved Dimensional Stability.
  • Epoxy & Polyester Resins – Very Low Oil Absorption. Reduced Viscosity, or Lower Resin Content at Equivalent Viscosity. Improved Flow and Easier Elmination of Air Bubbles.
Nanoperl

The new generation of ultra-fine glass beads with an average particle size down to 3 microns. Used in applications where the finest particle size is needed for improved scratch and abrasion resistance. Used in paints and coatings, improved performance wood coatings, and as an anti-block in plastics films.

Microperl Surface Treatment

The following surface treatments are available:- Coupling Agent Type 215 – recommended for polyamide, polypropylene, polycarbonate, epoxy, melamine-formaldehyde, phenol-formaldehyde.- Coupling Agent Type 216 – recommended for PBT, SAN.- Coupling Agent Type 217 – recommended for ABS, polyethylene, polystyrene, polyester, acrylic.
