What Is Acti-Gel® 208?

Acti-Gel® 208 is an inorganic, purified attapulgite clay that is used as a high-performance thixotropic rheology modifier. This unique magnesium aluminium silicate offers excellent stability, workability and superior particle suspension in water-based product.

Why Replace HEC With Acti-Gel® 208?

Hydroxy ethyl cellulose (HEC) is a commonly used organic co-thickener in paint formulations. For many years in fact, HEC was the only thickener used within water-based paints. However, cellulose products are highly susceptible to bacterial attack and fade after repeated shear thinning. Increased risk of bacterial growth ultimately leads to higher biocide requirements, to preserve and protect the product.

Acti-Gel® 208 can replace HEC as a co-thickener without reducing the paint properties, therefore reducing bacterial growth and consequently reducing the levels of biocides required.
